Lightning risk analysis Prevent lightning damage

A severe thunderstorm with lightning is never without danger. To date, it is not yet possible to prevent a lightning strike. No device or method exists to eliminate the electrical discharges of a lightning bolt. This is precisely why it is very important to identify the risks associated with lightning in your company and reduce them to a minimum.

What is the NBN EN 62305-2 standard?

The NBN EN 62305-2 standard clarifies risk management regarding lightning strikes.

Based on this standard, we analyze and evaluate lightning risks and propose preventive measures so that you have a clear picture of what is truly useful and necessary.

Which level of protection is required?

In addition to demonstrating the utility of a lightning protection system, the lightning risk analysis must also determine the required protection level for each part of the structure.

The NBN EN 62305 Lightning Protection standard contains four protection levels (I, II, III, and IV) for structures. The highest protection level is Level I, and the lowest is Level IV.

These correspond to effective protection against 98%, 95%, 88%, and 81% of lightning strikes, respectively.

And what type of protection system?

The protection level determines the robustness (and therefore the cost) of the lightning protection system. This relates to factors such as the mesh size of the conductors, the minimum length of the earth connections, the design of the air-termination systems, and so on.

With a lightning protection risk analysis by RelyOn, you receive independent advice on whether or not a lightning protection system is necessary for your building. This allows you to make a well-considered and informed decision that suits your needs.
